Very little is known about Shaistah Khan. Although details of his capture are not known, analysis by The Rendition Project and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism has established that he was transferred into CIA custody at some point 2-24 July 2003. Calculations published by the SSCI show that he was held by the CIA for 7-8 months (220-229 days) during 2003-2004. CIA records cited by the SSCI report document that Khan was “wrongfully detained”, given that he was held on the basis of fabrications which emerged from the torture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (as was his brother, Sayed Habib). However, whereas CIA records reveal that Habib was detained at two CIA-run sites in Afghanistan, COBALT and ORANGE, the whereabouts of Khan during his period of CIA detention are currently unknown. He was released at some point 7-29 February 2004.
